SDV Volunteers at Veterans Healing Farm

Tucked away in a quiet cove in the serene valley of Mills River, North Carolina is a peaceful farm designed for healing Veterans. You wouldn’t know a wonderful place such as this existed unless you stumbled upon it. With 11 acres of medicinal and botanical gardens, a glistening pond, designated beekeeping area, mature trees and more there is no wonder how this beautiful space promotes healing.
In July our team had the pleasure of volunteering a day of service at Veterans Healing Farm to give back to our fellow Veteran community. We found ourselves pulling weeds, laying mulch, filling fence post holes, snipping flowers, and harvesting vegetables. While these chores were quite labor-intensive on a hot summer day in July, it hardly seemed like work knowing the greater sacrifice our Veterans have made.

In the lower garden where we started our day you can find medicinal herbs meant to help with things like sleep, heart health and brain health. Veterans depend on these herbs to cope with a variety of medical conditions. By the pond, a field filled with the most beautiful flowers was ready to be pruned. The bright and cheerful bundles we formed into bouquets would later be delivered to a nearby assisted living facility that afternoon. No part of the harvest goes to waste. Everything there has a purpose, just as every person has a purpose.

Executive Director and former Marine Alan Yeck and his skilled staff are doing extraordinary work. Veterans Healing Farm offers a variety of therapeutic workshops and activities for Veterans and their families that promote emotional, mental and physical well-being. SDV Medical & SDV Office Systems is proud to support organizations like Veterans Healing Farm. If you would like to give to Veterans Healing Farm, please visit their website.
